Born in 1990 in Ringwood, Hampshire, singer and actor, Natasha Barnes, came to wider public attention last year with her acclaimed performances as Fanny Brice in ‘Funny Girl’ at the Savoy Theatre, stepping in at the last moment for an indisposed Sheridan Smith. Ms Barnes received 5 star reviews and unanimous praise for her work, the Daily Telegraph calling her: “…a sensation in her own right…” and noting her “…charisma and twinkling mischief that’s irresistible”. This runaway success was swiftly followed by Ms Barnes taking the lead role in the London Palladium’s all-star seasonal run of ‘Cinderella’.
Previous theatre productions have included ‘American Idiot’ at the Arts Theatre, directed by Racky Plews; ‘The Boy Who Fell Into A Book’, directed by Alyn Ayckbourn at the Stephen Joseph Theatre; ‘Chess’ at the Union Theatre; ‘Snow White’ at the Old Vic and on tour; ‘Come Dancing’ at the Theatre Royal Stratford East; ‘Lend Me A Tenor’, directed by Ian Talbot at the Gielgud Theatre; ‘I Was Looking At The Ceiling And Then I Saw The Sky’ at the Theatre Royal Stratford East and ‘Spring Awakening’, directed by Michael Mayer at the Lyric Hammersmith and Novello Theatres.
Ms Barnes’s work for TV has included ‘Doc Martin’ and ‘Doctors’ and she has been heard in several BBC radio dramas, including ‘The Day I Finished Off Charlotte Bronte’; ‘The Wonderful World of Allaetitia’ and ‘Alice Through The Looking Glass’.
Ms Barnes has participated in theatre workshops, including ‘Peter Pan’ at the Lyric Theatre and ‘Crush’ at the Harold Pinter Theatre.
Natasha Barnes is currently reprising her role as Fanny Brice in the UK national tour of ‘Funny Girl’ that runs until August 2017. She has recently signed an exclusive deal with Sony Music and will release her debut album in the autumn.
