起源於60年代的嬉皮文化，成名於当时的迷幻摇滚的Jefferson Airplane一直都是当今摇滚乐团的时代先驱者，尽管团名先后在Jefferson Airplane、Jefferson Starship、Airplane与Starship之间打转，他们的地位始终屹立不摇，堪称世界上最伟大的乐团之一！
国内乐迷对他们最熟悉的莫过於80年代中期Starship所带来的冠军曲，分别为1985年专辑「Knee Deep in the Hoopla」的 "We Built This City"，"Sara"，以及1987年的「No Protection」的葛莱美得奖曲 "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now"，然而在获得商业性的成功之余，他们这30多年来为乐坛所带来的音乐文化 - 迷幻摇滚精神(psychedelic rock spirit) 更是他们最为成功的时代功绩。
