朱迪·福斯特导演的此片，是一部美国家庭伦理困境的写照。刚离婚不久的克劳迪亚带着15岁的女儿一起生活。临近感恩节了，可周围的事情总不顺心，刚和自已约会的老板竟然解雇了她，女儿不耐烦她的管教，要与男友同居。她约和她谈得来的弟弟汤米回老家与父母一块过节。但回到家中也不顺心，父亲一身怪癖，母亲还拿她当小孩，姐姐与汤米发生了争吵，人老珠黄的姨妈却津津乐道与劳迪亚父亲年轻时的情愫……
