A little background may be necessary on this release for those who aren’t familiar with these Caravan remixes:
Steven Wilson (Porcupine Tree) remixed last year this 1971 Prog Rock classic “In the Land of Grey and Pink” in 5.1 surround and stereo. Unfortunately these mixes were *only* commercially issued in lossy compressed 16bits/48kHz Dolby form, to the dismay of the audiophile community and the fans. Yes, even the stereo remix (in 192kbps Dolby)! What were they thinking…
To protest against this decision of Universal (this has nothing to do with Steven Wilson who indeed pushed for a lossless DVD-Audio release!), I offer the lossless UNMASTERED versions of the surround AND stereo remixes in their glorious original full resolution 24bits/48kHz.
What does “unmastered” means? It means that the sound wasn’t further altered for accomodating the format of the final release (Dolby, DTS, etc…); the sound is exactly as it left Steven WIlson’s computer.
Finally you can hear all the subtleties and the power of these very faithful remixes.
Enjoy!
