Об альбоме
It would be futile, at this point in time, to sing the praises of MAGMA ; it has become a legend. In forming MAGMA in 1969, Christian VANDER initiated one of the richest creative efforts of the last 30 years. The group became successful in France very quickly and this fame soon spread abroad. One can ascribe this universality to the innate expressive force of MAGMA's music and to the successive waves of exceptional personalities who brought so much to the endeavour...beginning with Christian VANDER, recognized worldwide as a drum hero and as a composer of the utmost originality and expressive force.
1001° Centigrades is the second album by French Zeuhl band Magma. It was released in 1971. For this album,
Magma underwent several personnel changes: guitarist Claude Engel departed without being replaced, and Alain Charlery and Richard Raux made way for Louis Toesca (trumpet) and Jeff Seffer (sax, bass clarinet). This was the second installment in Magma's Kobaïan saga. With lyrics again performed in the band's invented language, the album chronicles the Kobaïan people's return to Earth to save the planet. After the release of Mekanïk Destruktïw Kommandöh, the band stopped playing any songs from this album.
This album, along with their first - Kobaia - is more jazz fusion based than their future albums. The Zeuhl sound has yet to be developed.
After this album and before the release of their third, a number of band members left the band due to disagreements in the future sound of the band. Two left to form Zao, a band which follows in the footsteps of Magma's first two releases.
