Highway to Hell
Recorded February–April 1979 at Roundhouse Studios, London, England
Highway to Hell is the sixth studio album by Australian hard rock band AC/DC, released in July 1979. It is also AC/DC's fifth international studio album. It was the last album featuring Bon Scott, who died early the following year from over-consumption of alcohol.
In 2003, the album was ranked number 199 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. This is quite easily AC/DC's finest hour (or 40 odd minutes to be precise). The title track kicks the album off and is one of those songs that just puts a smile on your face and gets your foot tapping from the first note. Even if you don't like AC/DC or heavy rock music its instantly recognisable. Things don't deteriorate much either on the following tracks and Touch Too Much is another peice of classic heavy rock. My vinyl version is battered beyond recognition but the remastered CD is now a regular in the old CD player. The only disappointment with it being there were no extra tracks. Sadly this was the last album to feature vocalist Bon Scott who died not long after its release. One can only wonder how good the follow up would have been. The remaining members of AC/DC embarked on a new journey down a different highway which brought them many new fans and a greater world wide success but I feel sure that many will agree with me that they never reached the heights of Highway To Hell again. A classic rock album which is an essential part of any true rock music lovers collection.Personnel
