Album
Never Turn Your Back on a Friend is Budgie's third album, released in June 1973. A remastered version was released in late 2004.
This is the band's best known album and is notable for its inclusion of "Breadfan", the band's best-known song. Metallica recorded a cover version of "Breadfan" in 1988.
The album cover was done by Roger Dean, who has done much of the album artwork for progressive rock band Yes.Three albums in and Budgie hit their eclectic zeinth with the 1973 release of Never Turn Your Back on a Friend. The Welsh power trio kicked off the seven song studio effort with the full-on blitz of "Breadfan", and never looked back. With the meandering ten-minute "Parents" hung-out as the other bookend track, Budgie filled-out Never Turn Your Back on a Friend with a cover of "Baby Please Don't Go", the hard boiled "You're the Biggest Thing Since Powdered Milk" (only Budgie consisently came up with out-there song titles like this), and the heavy handed "In the Grip of a Typefitter's Hand", while a pair of short and soft cuts, "You Know I'll Always Love You" and "Riding the Nightmare", offset the powerful riffage.
