About
IRENEUSZ SOCHA (1964) – drummer, vocalist, sound artist, improviser and composer. Co-edited DRUT (1985–1987) – one of Poland's first artzines. Founded and led Kirkut-Koncept (1985–1990) – a group performing original compositions bordering on rock song, cabaret, ethnic music and experimental. Took part in many other avantgarde Polish groups of the 1980s including: Przestrzenie (art songs, music theatre), Na Przyklad (group improvisation) and Hiena (postindustrial). Translated into Polish Chris Cutler's File Under Popular (1999). In 2000, founded Dembitzer Music label. His selected discography includes: Ireneusz Socha & Piotr Czerny “Microaudioplays” (Soror Mystica, 1998), Ireneusz Socha/Barbara Socha/Joane Hétu/Marek Choloniewski/Boleslaw Blaszczyk “With/Without” (Dembitzer Music, 2000), Ireneusz Socha/Tomasz Krakowiak “KITS” (Dembitzer Music/Dobosz Records, 2002), Najduchy “Porzadek : Chaos” (Dembitzer Music, 2003), Ireneusz Socha “Sztetlach” (Dembitzer Music, 2005), KITS “Four Years In Pieces” (Dembitzer Music, 2007), as well as cameo appearances on Chris Cutler's “Twice Around The Earth” (ReR, 2005) and The Cracow Klezmer Band's “Balan: Book of Angels Volume 5” (Tzadik, 2006).
POLIN: The piece presented on this CD was created on and off between 2004 and 2011. A sketch of the piece was originally written for the Jacek Podsiadło’s Najduchy poetry and music project. The first mix of “Polin” was premiered during the 15th Jewish Culture Festival in Cracow performed live by Socha with the Cracow Klezmer Band at the Alchemia club on June 24, 2005. In 2008, an alternative mix of “Polin” was commissioned by Raphael Rogiński as a part of his hörspiel/installation project during the 5th Jewish Culture Festival in Warsaw. Dealing with Polish-Jewish history, politics and culture, “Polin” is an electronic/plunderphonic/played coda to “Sztetlach” (http://www.dembitzer.pl/text?t=14), leading the story on through some new sound and contextual labyrinths.
