Catalan guitarist Jose Luis Monton made a vital contribution to Amina Alaoui’s Arco Iris. During the session, producer Manfred Eicher determined that a Monton solo project was essential for ECM. This stunning album recorded in Lugano last year is a major artistic statement. The program of Monton compositions draws upon the melodic subtleties, rhythmic vitality and emotional power of flamenco. One of the label’s finest solo guitar albums.
