О диске
In a remarkable display of their musical range and sensitivity, the buoyant alto sax of Adderley and introspective piano of Evans move effortlessly toward a middle ground that shows both to great advantage. Recorded in 1961, the sound quality of these master tapes is breathtaking: a real audiophile dream disc! Featuring Percy Heath on bass and Connie Kay on drums.
Community biography from SoundUnwound:
Julian Edwin “Cannonball” Adderley was a teacher-turned-saxophonist whose main fame was in the 1950s & 1960s. He spent a period of time in the late 50s playing with Miles Davis & contributed to their seminal albums, Milestones & Kind of Blue.
After playing with Davis he formed his own band, The Cannonball Adderley Quintet which later evolved into a sextet & achieved a crossover audience in the mainstream in the late 1960s. His extensive discography is replete with examples of collaborations with notable jazz musicians throughout his career. He continued to release albums until his early death, from a stroke, in 1975 at the age of 46.

Fantastic Performances & Great Sound Reproduction, BUT… January 10, 2010
By Jose Martinez-Diaz
This album has fantastic performances & great sound reproduction on SACD, BUT the liner notes have errors. First, even though Percey Heath & Connie Kay are mentioned in the original liner notes & are credited in the back cover of the CD, the booklet lists Scott LaFaro & Paul Motian as playing???? Second, the booklet & back cover of the CD both say that the last 4 tracks (7-10) are bonus tracks. If my memory serves me well, only the last 2 tracks (9-10) were not included in the original release. After all, tracks 7 & 8 are both mentioned in the original liner notes by Joe Golberg. I will still give the CD a 5-star rating as the mistakes do not detract from the listening experience, & that is what really matters. Know what I mean?
