Florent Pagny
2003: Some years ago, Florent Pagny migrated to the remote lands of Patagonia. Some say he fled, wearing a yellow poncho, he sings: “If they ask / tell them to forget me wait / For here also Ailleurs Land / And if we asks you tell them / I work my hands / I watch the sky / I’m the key / Land Elsewhere. “
MWC says, in the year of it’s release this album was huge in France. Pagny’s song My Right To Think was a massive top 10 single as were a few other tracks like the poke at the press, Ask My Horse This guy has produced maybe a dozen albums, he’s is a big star in France and well know in all Francophile lands. He’s some character, his biog is worth looking up. If you can find this for sale, anywhere, snatch it if you can.
Amazon 2003 review:
I bought this album whilst in France this summer because I “liked the cut of his poncho” ! I was pleasantly surprised on 1st listening, & then the album began to grow on me, & now, 4 months later it is my all-time most listened to album.
Pagny has a unique style, unashamedly French. The album has a mixture of tracks, some “rocky”, & some slower – all of them sounding original & fresh to the English ear, & almost all of them are individual little sparkling gems. Pagny, now living in Patagonia, sings of a number of different subjects (some of which I have not yet deciphered as my French is not too good!) Including a rant at the taxman, & another at the French press (Demander A mon Cheval – an ironic French saying which literally translates as Ask at my horse!!)
If you are interested in all things French – Buy this album
If you are not interested – Buy it anyway – you won’t regret it!!
