范·莫里森，1945年8月31日出生于爱尔兰的贝尔法斯特，是英国索尔的代表人物之一。但是，范·莫里森的音乐风格涉及面甚广，布鲁斯、爵士、乡村、民谣以及索尔音乐无一不在他的作品中流露出来，索尔只是他音乐风格中的一部分。 由于受到父母的影响（母亲曾是一名爵士歌手），很小就对布鲁斯和爵士乐产生了浓厚的兴趣，15岁时离开学校开始从事音乐工作。1963年组织了"他们"（Them）乐队，并出版了两张专辑。1969年，他在"华纳兄弟"（Warner Brothers）公司推出了第一张个人专辑《星际星期》（Astral Weeks）。随后，于1970年推出的《月宫舞》（Moondance）是他的一张重要专辑，他把节奏布鲁斯和爵士乐有机地结合到了一起。1980年，专辑《普通一员》（Common one）带有浓烈的乡村浪漫主义情调。从1990年以后，莫里森几乎每年出版一张专辑。1995年出版了第22张个人专辑《像这样的日子》（Days like this）。1996年录制了一张向爵士钢琴家本·西德兰（Ben Sidran）和阿利森（Allison）致敬的专辑《莫西·阿利森之歌：告诉我点什么》（Songs of mose Allison：Tell me something）是一张典型的爵士唱片。范·莫里森从60年代起一直活跃于乐坛至今，被认为是英国流行乐坛最引人注目的歌手及作曲家之一。
