Diamond Head and The White Album
"Diamond Head have meant so much to Metallica. We probably wouldn't sound the way we do if it wasn't for those guys."_
-Lars Ulrich / Metallica
Diamond Head was at the forefront of the NWOBHM. Sharing the spotlight with such acts as Iron Maiden, Saxon and Def Leppard, Diamond Head ushered-in a new style of Euro-metal. With Brian Tatler and Sean Harris teaming to write riff-infested tracks, Diamond Head recorded one killer cut after another.
The original pressing of The White Album, which featured each members autograph on the cover, may have lacked quality production values, but the songs were spot-on and set the standard for heavy metal from the new wave of British acts. Seven killer D. Head cuts filled out The White Album. The 1980 release featured "Lightning To The Nations", "The Prince", "Sucking My Love", "Am I Evil", "Sweet And Innocent", "It's Electric" and "Helpless". The album is a mine field of explosive tracks.
In 2001, Sanctuary reissued The White Album, and added seven additional songs from the group, including "Shoot Out The Lights", "Streets Of Gold", "Play It Loud" and "Diamond Lights".
Power, energy, speed, galloping riffs and hot leads... it was the Diamond Head way! A Diamond is a hard rock... and Diamond Head are hard rockers!
_"Diamond Head were one of the most influential bands when I was in Metallica, and they're very influential in Megadeth."_
-Dave Mustaine / Megadeth
In 2008, the Japanese metal magazine Burrn! rated this album as the third best riff album of all time, behind Black Sabbath's Master of Reality and Slayer's Reign in Blood. Also, the Guitarists' Book of Heavy Metal ranked the track "Am I Evil?" as the 5th best riff behind Iron Maiden's "The Number of the Beast"
