Album
Operation: Mindcrime is a concept album by American progressive metal band Queensrÿche. Released on May 3, 1988, it is the band's third full-length album. A rock opera, its story follows a man who becomes disillusioned with the society of the time and reluctantly becomes involved with a revolutionary group as an assassin of political leaders. In January 1989, it ranked #34 on Kerrang! magazine's "100 Greatest Heavy Metal Albums Of All Time"
I remember now...
Simply stated, Operation: Mindcrime (1988) is a hard rock/heavy metal concept album of epic proportions! A masterpiece from Queensrÿche, as the Seattle based band relates the thought-provoking story of the ills of society, which focuses on three main characters: Nikki, Sister Mary and the evil Doctor X. Throughout the entire recording of tightly crafted cuts the rÿche rages.
From start-to-close, the riveting Mindcrime recording is an intelligent progressive metal work. Produced by Peter Collins, the set of fifteen interlocking songs build as the conceptual story unfolds.
Guitarist Chris De Garmo contributed the majority of the sci-fi material for the LP, while Geoff Tate's commanding vocals accent each number. Openning with the narrative "I Remember Now" and featuring "I Don't Believe in Love", the hammering "Revolution Calling", "Anrchy X", "The Needle Lies" and "Spreading the Disease", the stealth Queensrÿche machine peaks with the six-minute LP ending track, "Eyes of a Stranger".
My personal selection as the album of the year from 1988. All hail the mighty rÿche.
