Об альбоме (сборнике)
One of the greatest violinists of the 20th century. Great performer in romantic music but he is a master performer of Mozart’s violin music. Even after a half century this CD remains a reference.
SA-CD.net reviews:
Review by acousticsguru December 16, 2014:
This, to me, is 1 of the handful most successful Esoteric remasterings. The luminosity of Grumiaux’ tone, the sheer joy of music-making, sheer bliss. Been listening to e.g. the Fischer & Thorsen SACDs lately, but hearing this, one is reminded some things were indeed better in the olden days… If I had had a say in this, I’d not have chosen the Sinfonia Concertante with Pelliccia, as I know at least half a dozen recordings that I prefer (having said that, it’s not bad at all, just not on the exalted level of the Violin Concertos – it’s also less lively & dynamic sonically, all in all a slightly but noticeably less inspired affair). A complete box-set of all the Concerti, possibly with the Sonatas with Clara Haskil, too, in a remastering like this – well, one can’t have everything…

I would almost completely agree. This SACD release of half of Grumiaux’s Mozart concerto set is the best sounding transfers these wonderful recordings have ever received, even better than the Japanese LPs. My only quibble is that while it is true that it’s sound does not quite match the fine quality given the 2 concertos, the Sinfonia Concertante has always seemed to me as fine a performance as any of the others, making the entire disc a treasure. Now if we could get the other 3 concertos in the set, & maybe the 4 Bishop/Davis Mozart piano concerto recordings in SACD….Oh, well, this is a wonderful start.
