Об альбоме (сборнике)
George Szell conducts Schubert’s 9th Symphony (sometimes counted as #8), the “Great,” and incidental music to Rosamunde.
Review from SA-CD.net: Szell works his usual magic with this music, and it comes out sounding so right that one can almost hear past the recording. This is another one of those shallow and somewhat shrill 60′s CBS creations, but SACD makes it at least listenable. The performances of the Symphony and Rosamunde are perfect. I compared this to, among others, the Living Stereo SACD issue of Munch’s “Great”. Although the LS has somewhat better, but nowhere near SOTA, sound, the Szell, to me, seems more true to Schubert’s style, but with plenty of flair. Szell never seems to impose his own will on the music, but he always finds a way to make more of the composition than anyone else can. Szell puts all the accents in the right places and points the rhythms very naturally. The structure and power of Schubert’s charming music is enhanced at every turn.
