Willy and the Poor Boys originally came out in 1969, when, as annotator Ed Ward writes, “a period when Creedence, surely the most anomalous band in the San Francisco explosion of the late ‘60s, was also proving its most commercial seller of them all.” Well received after it's original release, Willy and the Poor Boys made the top 50 in six countries. In 2003, the record made it to Rolling Stone magazine's list of 500 greatest albums of all time.
In many ways, Willy and the Poor Boys is a snapshot of the band's entire history.
