Notes:
Ustad Allauddin Khan (not to be confused with the famous Sarod player Allauddin Khan) was born
in 1947 in New Delhi as son of the well known musician Ustad Mohammed Ahmed Banne Khan, who
belonged to the Sonipat Gharana. Father Banne Khan taught his son at the early age of five how to
play the Sarangi. His son soon decided to play the Esraj, which is also called Dilruba and is a combination
of the Sarangi and Sitar. The artist has not only changed the technique of playing this instrument but also
the instrument itself by adding a resonator made of brass. He calls his instrument Dilrubaesraj.
With the present recording the Dilrubaesraj is for the first time put before the public on a sound-carrier.
