澳大利亚著名导演Bruce Beresford（《为黛西小姐开车》）的作品，描述特殊年代下一个中国北方农村贫苦人家的11岁男孩，因为一个极其偶然的机会，被挑选到北京舞蹈学院学习芭蕾舞。后来又获准来美国学习，因与一名女芭蕾舞者相恋，他选择留在美国，由此引发了一场风波。澳大利亚配乐家家Christopher Gordon谱曲，其中亦加进了莫扎特和柴可夫斯基的钢琴奏鸣曲和舞剧《天鹅湖》选段。非本土导演，非本土作曲家，能将六七十年代的“异国”风貌刻画的具体，还原得传神、到位，旋律方面则东方韵味满满，足见创作团队的用心和功力。
