two years ago he left his own solo project, uncle’s institution and made his debut as the solo artist egil olsen with the album i am a singer / songwriter. this was according to the artist himself, a result of a soul searching road trip in the us where he found himself. in hollywood. since then he has done countless shows, released his music in asia, won an award for best norwegian music video, covered hip hop classics on norwegian radio, and of course worked on his new album. he has also recently married, seen a quite a few movies, listened to music, been robbed on tour, been skydiving, started to play soccer and gone for walks and cuddled with his dog and his wife.
egil olsen continues with his small but great songs. the album opens naked with 1000 songs (4 you (2 night)) and becomes slowly but surely bigger and bigger. an album that grows in more than one way. nothing like the love i have for you is an album about love and peace, about growing and becoming a better person. egil olsen flushes his inner demons down the drain in the song toilet, realizes that maybe it’s time to be a man and propose in home alone, moves to oslo and finds himself in need to beat his angst and fear in i just don’t care (in a good way) anymore and shows his gratitude and amazement for love and the universe in his personal favourite, dot.
egil olsen produces and plays most instruments himself, but brought along several musicians on horns, strings, upright bass, drums and steel guitar. he is also visited by fellow norwegian artists thom hell and jenny hval aka rockettothesky who works her magic on hard work and fate, which is, according to egil olsen’s father; more of a piece of art than a song.
rumors are spreading on egil olsen being a brilliant live performer where the humor in, and especially between songs, complements the vulnerable, near and real. The lyrics and the melody is in focus with a simple, warm and naked expression. egil olsen will continue to do as many egil olsen shows as possible. always. everywhere. any where and time. he is a solo performer, but enjoys the company of a guest or two.
