Once is the celebrated new Broadway show based on the Academy Award-winning film. The show includes all of the beloved songs written by Glen Hansard and Markéta Irglová for the critically acclaimed film. The score features the Oscar-winning hit “Falling Slowly,” as well as two new songs, “Abandoned in Bandon” and the Czech folk song “Ej Pada Pada Rosicka.” One of the most unique elements of this musical is that the 13-member cast of the show act, sing and play all of the instruments: there is no orchestra or separate band. A distinctive aspect to the cast album is that it was produced allowing these talented actors/musicians to record the music in the same style and environment as their stage show. This special recording process not only showcases the gorgeous new orchestrations by Martin Lowe, but also captures the live essence of this extraordinary ensemble.

Доп. информация: Glen Hansard must be having an amazing year: First up, he has an impressive solo record due next month. Titled Rhythm and Repose, the 11-track set is Hansard’s first collection of new tunes to be released since the Swell Season’s 2009 LP, Strict Joy. Speaking of that duo with Markéta Irglová, the pair just received even more praise for their Oscar-winning work on the film Once, as the love story’s new Broadway incarnation, Once, The Musical, raked in 11 Tony Award nominations this morning.
Hansard, of course, penned most of the tunes on the original soundtrack for the feature film, including a still-stunning cut that won the Academy Award that year, “Falling Slowly.” For the Broadway version, actor Steve Kazee takes on the tune alongside co-star Cristtin Milioti, who plays the character originally portrayed by Irglová. What’s more, Once, The Musical‘s soundtrack was released last month to glowing reviews and raves from fans of the movie, proving once and for all that Hansard’s talents certainly weren’t limited to the onscreen medium.
With that I think we’ve made our case: When it comes to street-busking singer-songwriters, Hansard is having by far the best 2012 so far. Now’s a good time to revisit his enduring Once material via the musical’s OST.
