Young Bones (2007).

MaliaMalia (born 1978) is a singer from Malawi. She has released six albums to date.
Malia's mother is from Malawi and her father is from the United Kingdom. She moved to London when she was a teenager. A budding singer, while in New York, she heard a French song by Liane Foly that fascinated her and she made contact with the composer/producer of the song, André Manoukian in France. Ever since, she has collaborated with Manoukian for a number of her albums starting with her debut Yellow Daffodils in 2002. The album Black Orchid, her fourth, is a tribute to Nina Simone. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malia_(singer)
Malia's music is an example of how today's music overruns all borders and genres.
Malia was born in Malawi, East Africa. When she was 14 years old she moved to London and lived afterwards in several european countries. Her new album (her sixth) is influenced more than ever by her African origins.
"It's a record that I wanted to do for a long time. I wanted to create songs that reflect my consciousness, my origin."
This cultural legacy is reflected in her new songs once again. Forceful songs, sparingly orchestrated, with Malia's clear, concise, warm voice in the foreground. Never before have we experienced this artist with such remarkable intensity - the album captures the quintessence of what it means to be a musical world citizen, proud of her roots. In the piece "Chipadzuwa" she oscillates between English and Chichewa, the Bantu regional language. She re-interprets classics like "Moon River" in a minimalist but deeply intensive manner, adds some songwriting highlights of her own and performs a few pop jewels in her distinctive personal style.
Malia moves between Jazz, Blues and Soul with an intuitive certainty. Whatever she sings or interpretes: her sound is always cool, and yet very warm hearted, never dusty, always highly topical. Malia is one of the flagship artists of our global music culture. https://www.malia-music.com/about

Info for 'The Garden of Eve'After releasing spine-tinglingly striking single “Hope” just before Christmas, Malawi-born, London-based jazz singer Malia welcomes the new decade with ‘The Garden of Eve’, an album dedicated to the blues and its stories. It has been a long time since a contemporary artist has made such a beautiful homage to the blues, a style that in the year 2020 deserves to have a bit of its dust brushed off. “Blues has always been dear to my heart: it’s a cathartic experience, precious and profound, whether it’s playing it or listen to it on the radio. When I first heard Billie Holiday sing ‘Blue Moon’, I could feel it with every cell of my body. She had such a powerful effect on me. Sentimental blues, originating from tragic situations, sometimes even reflecting my own experiences... No matter how bad family, friends, politics, lovers, governments or society might be, they can never destroy the forces for good in this world. And as time passes by, I more and more find the truth that is rooted in my soul. And I finally feel mature enough to understand this wonderful musical tradition - because blues means life.” And if blues means life, Malia is the energy that allows the blues to have a soul, a voice. Characterised by her unique timbre - that doesn’t need any further explaining - Malia gives us a thrill throughout the 12 tracks of this album, that has everything to become a classic.
