      希利亚德合唱团(The Hilliard Ensemble)最早成立于1974年，其风格主要是專注在文艺复兴、前巴洛克、巴洛克時期的人声詩歌吟唱，陣中成员起初都是男性，之后慢慢才有女性成员加入。Hilliard Ensemble追求的是一种純粹的和諧和声，而他們也以此作为钻研中古世紀音乐最重要的中心思想。
      有人说，英国人称得上是世界上最好的读谱者，合唱团排练的过程中你会惊讶发现团员们快速分析谱面以及进一步理解它的能力。他们的音色既明亮又清晰，带着一点儿健康的“晕眩”（spin），不用太多的颤音，是那种温暖绵长的、开放式的元音发音，因为元音的那种纯净感是最贴切音乐中的密集和声（close harmonies）的。
      这来源于几个世纪以来古老的歌唱传统，英国人特别会用心推敲怎么把音乐“做出来”，既要有灵魂、有表现力，但又不能太多愁善感，太矫揉造作。他们都有着一颗作为歌手的、鲜活跳跃着的心脏，同时也具备了经过充足训练的、音乐家的大脑。
