A DSD live recording. Recorded at Royal Albert Hall, London, England - August 22, 2001 (Rachmaninov), Warner ConcertHall, Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio - October 20, 2001 (Scriabin).
"As the Rachmaninoff concerto challenges the (piano's) scope & dimension, the SACD recreates its full range with authority, clarity & warmth…The disc's realism is heightened by a recording process that perfectly catches the ambience of the live recording."

SA-CD.net review by hobo:
I have the reachmaninov recording form George Bolet for years now. This recording from Telarc is very good, problably better. Very musical. The Steinway sounds very natural. The higher notes sound very open & 'round' You can almost imagine a Steinway in your room. This is a sound I never heard on a CD recording.
Telarc does a good job in registering the live performance from Lang Lang. Of course he is a very good pianist & plays this very difficult piece of music very good. With a lot of feeling. This wonder boy knows what he is doing!
This is a direct DSD recording, so as you would expect the sound is very natural & open.
Some days ago I heard a live performance of Lang Lang in the concert hall. It is incredible how much resemblance this recording has with the real concert.
The SACD sounds very natural. The Steinway is really a Steinway. On the CD version the playing is much more difficult to follow, problably because you miss so much information.
For the people who don't know the 3rd from Rachmaninov. It is a romatic piece of music with very soft pieces in it, very emotional. Very difficult to play, a lot of pianist didn't want to play it when Rachmaninov finished it. Most considered it too difficult to play, problably because Rachmaninov himself had big hands. After years the 1st who performed it was Horowitz. It is now a very well know piano concert.
If you like Rachmaninov, I highly recommend it!
Amazon review by David Robinson:
While this doesn't have the velocity of Martha Argerich's recording, or the smooth glow of Byron Janis's, I'd consider this as a credible candidate for your only copy of Rachmaninov's 3rd Piano Concerto. The power of the 1st movement cadenza alone is worth the price of admission, & at the end of of the 3rd movement, you'll leap to your feet to join in the yelp of applause from the usualy staid British audience. The Scriabin Etudes aren't as familiar, but are useful for demonstrating pianistic brilliance. Lang Lang is likely to be the most important pianist of his generation.
