In 1717: "On 6 November Bach, formerly a concertmaster & organist of the court, was arrested in the courtroom on account of his stubborn attitude & the obstinate solicitation of his leave.
December, his leave was finally served on him, at the same time as his declared disgrace, & he was freed from his judgments " : extract from the municipal archives of Leipzig.
It was during this stay in prison, from 6 November to 2 December 1717, that JS Bach, who wished to leave the service of the Duke of Weimar, would have composed or retouched the 45 little
chorales intended for the education of the beginner organist.
