It should also be stated that these EMI recordings are quite excellent: spacious, full-bodied and immediate. The Munich Philharmonic perform wonderfully, these were live performances. Applause is retained in order to invite the listener to join an audience present in the hall, as if he/she was also there, ready to concentrate and be enthralled.
How to rate this set?  most people need a certain familiarity with the music to be drawn into Celibidache's interpretations. For those who do know this wonderful music then I'd rate this set as being absolutely essential and easily a 5* recommendation.
