【About Artist】
Shawn Colvin生于1958年严冬的1月10日，老家在南达科它州东南平原上仅7000人的小镇Vermillion。她父亲是个忠实的民谣拥戴者，经常模仿民谣小组Kingston Trio在屋前的草坪上为家人和朋友演唱。Shawn家中收藏了大量Kinston Trio、Pete Seeger、Harry Belafonte、Josh White的唱片和音乐剧原声大碟，其中Kingston Trio是她最喜欢的。由于父亲想培养大儿子对民谣的兴趣，特意为他买了把民谣音乐中特比使用得4弦次中音吉他。可是这个年轻人则迷恋于小提琴和古典音乐。所以Shawn就常拿来弹，10岁时达到5级水准。在少年时代，她的家庭数次搬迁，每更换一个新环境，吉他都是她形影不离的伙伴，同时电台节目对她也越来越重要，从中她认识了Beatles、Simon&Garfunkel、Bob Dylan等，一家最后搬到了南依利诺斯州立大学的所在地Carbondale，美国著名的一座大学城。Shawn被送进了著名的林肯高中。虽然校方的严厉使Shawn多有厌倦，但音乐再次使她焕发了创作的活力，她和一个朋友开始以民谣的形式演出。在林肯高中，两年内她的作品在校内赢得了很高的影响，同时她的音乐类型也在不定的演变，从民谣到摇滚，再回到民谣。她提早一年从学校毕业，并在附近的南依利诺斯州立大学入学，在当地主要的舞会“American Tap”中谋得第一份真正有报酬的独唱表演机会。20岁时她组建了Shawn Colvin乐队，尝试硬摇滚风格。后来她通过朋友的推荐，加入了流行的Dixie Diesels乡村摇摆乐队，并随他们移居Austin。但长时间的旅途、羞涩的钱囊、艰难的生活和得不到保养的嗓子使她离开了乐队，回到依利诺斯，一边学习，一边慢慢地恢复表演。继而Shawn去旧金山发展，在当地的Berkeley俱乐部开始学习电吉他，并很快成为那里的演出焦点。当她得知纽约的一支西部乡村乐队正在召募女声主唱的消息后，毅然到达了纽约。当时正是1980年12月的第一天。

经过3年的乐队生涯，Shawn终于决定独立发展，成为一名独唱歌手。她相继在纽约的“Folkcity"和“The Other End"俱乐部表演。很快，她的演唱吸引了很多人的关注。一张《The Fast Folk》的合唱辑使她显露而出，她演唱了自己创作的歌曲“Idon'tknowwhy"(这成为了她以后经常演唱的节目)。但真正的转折点是她在Passim的首次亮相，那里的观众用热烈的拥抱来表示对她的喜爱。同期，她分别在舞台上出演了"PumpBoysandDinettes"和"DiamondStuds”两部戏剧的角色，在SamShepherd出演的“Lieofthemind”中演唱了8个月，还与Pool在CBGB演唱会上共同演奏吉他。她还被SuzanneVega的经纪人RonFrierstein选中在Suzanne的长期巡演中演唱。当巡演结束，Shawn的职业生涯也走上了一大步。她在Passim时结交的歌迷的宣传下，独立发行了一盒现场演出的卡带，并得到了波士顿电台的支持。Shawn在东部民歌俱乐部的路线上走入正轨，赢得了颇有威望的纽约音乐奖的最佳新人奖。到1988年春，Fierstein成为她的经纪人。当她在费城和纽波特民谣音乐节上深深抓住了观众的心时，终于迎来了哥伦比亚公司的唱片合约。同年9月，她在Paine大厅举行了第一场个人演唱会。1989年推出了个人的首张专辑《Steadyon》。

1992年的第二张专辑《Fat City》为她首次获得了两个葛莱美奖的提名，1994年的第三张专辑《CoverGirl》则回归根源，以Shawn的方式演绎了她成长路上所感动影响她的歌曲。其中她演唱BobDylan的“You are gonna make me lonesome when you go"获得意料之外的好评。近年来Shawn还参与电影音乐的创作，曾为Kevin Costner等人的影片写歌，并且参加了Allison Anders导演的“Graceofmyheart”。1997年Shawn又推出了由12首新歌组成的第4张专辑《A few small repairs》。Shawn的词作、嗓音和音乐已经合成为一种具有完美情感的独立乐器。她联合前三张专辑的原班人马所制作的这张专辑依然体现了她嗓音的甜美、感情的诚挚、别有创新的吉他演奏和幽默的嘲讽。新歌中融汇了她个人所有愉快和不幸的经历，以自己独特的方式演绎了这张最终为她首度捧得葛莱美的成功唱片。Shawn的音乐是荡漾在青绿间的浮云，它用根源的纯朴与本色期待到了主流的最高评价。“Sunny came home"在1998年击败的不仅是主流流行乐的傲慢和焦躁，更是倡导了清新与融入生活的亲切。虽然这或许只是小小的声音，虽然葛莱美会把它早早地忘记，但是正因为如此，她才是葛莱美最大的惊奇。 （转载自网络）
