Biography

                                                Carla Morrison (b. July 19, 1986 in
                                                Tecate, Baja California, Mexico) is a Mexican pop-rock
                                                singer, songwriter and guitarist. Her label is Cosmic
                                                Records of Los Angeles, California.
                                                Born in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, Carla Patricia
                                                Morrison Flores is a daughter of Mexican parents,
                                                Porfiria Flores and Hilario Morrison (born Viera). When
                                                Carla's dad was 13, he ran away from Durango and sought
                                                work in San Diego. A man named William Morrison adopted
                                                him and looked after him, giving him his surname
                                                Morrison. This is why her last name is Morrison, instead
                                                of Viera. Since childhood Carla was attracted to the
                                                arts, in various media, such as drawing, poetry, writing
                                                stories, crafts, and dance styles such as African and
                                                jazz improvisation. But among all the arts, music
                                                symbolized her greatest passion. As a child she sang
                                                secretly, as she was shy. She didn't sing publicly until

There’s something perfect about this record. Something terribly familiar without this meaning it’s neither fresh nor original. ‘Cause it is, and boy, how, how powerfully fresh it is! It’s just that (I think) the world is about to listen/see/feel the birth of a new classic. And classics always feel like home. Carla’s voice is spectacular, heavenly, clean, sweet, lovely and electric. But maybe we knew that already. And her knack for crafting round, clever, unpretentious and unabashedly emotional and sincere songs doesn’t come as a surprise either. Yet here it’s just more mature, more acute, more polished… and deeper.
I believe that Natalia’s presence in this recording only makes Carla shine brighter and show herself, her spirit in a way that’s purer and more beautiful than ever. That’s all it does. And this speaks tons to me about both artists. I understand better than ever the talent and reach of Carla. And I respect more than ever Natalia’s humble genius. Carla sees Mientras Tú Dormías as an EP but I see it as a short and complete album. Every song has a role to play. "Compartir," the first single, opens the album exposing Carla’s new sound in its entire splendor. It also exposes her passionate poetic contradictions that somehow click with our hearts and with the truth of being in love so well it’s scary.
Como es is surprising in its oxymoronic nature of being a cool f-you song. A song of love-gone-bad that depicts Carla as her (very Mexican) character of the despechada chanteuse. Jealousy and the treason of the ungrateful lover eventually empowers her as it allows her to understand that all the love she has to give is worth more than that. It opens her eyes: “tu acción fue mi bendición, ahora sí están abiertos mis ojos”. And I have to add that I have experienced Carla singing this one live a couple of times and it’s one of those that the crowd just loves to sing OUT LOUD! But, then again, I think that almost all of her songs make her fans go crazy that way! The trumpets near the end give it this drowsy mariachi air that ‘s just lovely.

With her 2012 album Dejenme Llorar, this Mexican singer has consolidated a unique music style defined by a melancholic tone and the artist's beautiful, warm voice. Thanks to this 14-track CD, Carla Morrison received four nominations to the 2012 Latin Grammy Awards. Let's take a look at this production.
Most of the songs on this album are defined by a melancholic sound that is simple yet well conceived. Because of this, sometimes it is difficult to know if you are listening to the same song or the next one. In other words, there are lots of similarities between the different tracks, which is fine if you are able to go through the first songs on this album without getting tired.

If you are expecting to find variety on this album, 14 tracks defined by a very similar sound create room for disappointment. That said, Dejenme Llorar is an album that is not for everyone. However, people who want to get away from mainstream music may find this work very appealing.

"Hasta La Piel"
One of the best songs on this album, and one which injects this work with a different sound, is "Hasta La Piel." This single offers a nice beat, which is also a bit more mainstream than the rest of the stuff you can hear on this CD. I think Dejenme Llorar would have been a better album with a couple of additional tracks like this one.

Besides "Hasta La Piel," you can hear some of the most interesting melodies and arrangements in tracks such as "Me Encanta," "No Quise Mirar" and "Dejenme Llorar." I think these songs represent in a good way the sound that defines Carla Morrison's music today.

'Dejenme Llorar' - Bottom Line
Dejenme Llorar is an album that allows Carla Morrison to consolidate one of today's most distinctive styles in the Latin Alternative music scene. Although sometimes this CD may sound a bit repetitive, it offers for the most part a very pleasant, relaxing musical experience. If you are into mainstream music, however, you could find this album too slow and maybe a bit boring.
Carla Morrison's Dejenme Llorar is definitely a nice option for those who want to get away from commercial music. On top of all this, the voice and singing style of this artist is definitely capturing. Beyond what we may think about Dejenme Llorar, it is very refreshing to have artists like Carla Morrison in the Latin music world.
