专辑简介:
I have been waiting for this recording for months to come out on MFSL. I ordered it through Amazon and it kept being put on backorder until finally in August it came out. Finally!
As for the recording. I have listened to it a couple of times now and, while not up there with the best of the really great Ma Vlasts (including all of Kubelik's recordings, esp. the live 1990 and Talich's 1950 mono recording), it is a great performance with above average sound. The sound on this performance is much like Susskind's Holst. Color is well brought to the fore and the often warm, burnished sound of the brass sections are highlighted. The trumpets are a little "blatty" sounding at times, however, and this distracts somewhat.
Susskind is well within the idiom of this music since he himself is Czech. The St. Louis SO is no Czech PO and while I enjoy the sound that is produced here, I really must admit I love the sound of the Czech PO under the numerous conductors that have recorded this old warhorse (Kubelik, as mentioned before is really my reference point for Smetana and Talich's mono recording is beautifully done in great mono sound).
I cannot rate the sound in MC since my system isn't set up for it yet since moving.
So in essence a great performance with above average sound. 曲目列表:
