With 'These Foolish Things', Ferry provides more than mere nostalgia. The album consists of thirteen covers, all of which are given new life and in most cases, new arrangment. Most of Roxy Music is absent, throughout proceedings and Ferry's vocals are among his best ever. This album is the most entertaining, camp, theatrical, emotional and above all musical of his solo releases. His takes on these classics both show contempt for, while paying homage to the original performers. The band is stunning throughout and the front cover shot is a gem. Highlights are, 'Piece of My Heart', 'Sympathy for the Devil', 'The Tracks of my Tears', the title track and best of all, an incredibly effective take on Dylan's 'A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall' which has to be heard to be believed.
