美国著名乡村摇滚运动的领头人威利·尼尔逊 Willie Nelson，演唱生涯几十年，至今仍是乡村音乐中一位不可或缺的人物。
他演唱的流行歌曲旋律优美，演唱风格质朴，因而受到主流音乐爱好者的欢迎。人们能从他的歌里更好地认识他。他说："我写的歌中百分之九十来自于我个人的经历。如果有人想了解我，我歌中都写到了。"迄今为止，他的创作数量已达近1000首歌。
70年代中期，尼尔逊成为德克萨斯、奥斯丁为中心发展起来的“乡村-摇滚运动”带头人。他代表了乡村音乐主流；他写的许多乡村歌曲成为经典之作。录制的很多专辑都进入了乡村音乐榜……所有这一切，使他成为美国的音乐偶像和乡村音乐传奇人物。2000年获得格莱美终身成就奖。
