Year of The Rat is the third in Fucked Up's Series of Records based on the Chinese Astrological Cycle. Year of the Rat is an 11 minutes song that rationalizes the tumultuous year in the world, the band and in their own homes, expressed as the loudest Fucked up recording to date. Year of the Rat was recorded at the culmination of 2008 and adheres to the principles of the Chinese sign. Side A memorializes this trans-formative year of political and cultural uncertainty, with a cascade of guitars layering into a dense and propulsive charge reminiscent of the most memorable Hawkwind songs(think "Psychedelic Warlords," "Silver Machine"). Side B,"First Born" is not just a meditation on becoming a father - it's an uncompromising push towards a new sincerity.
