Album
Bad Reputation is the eighth studio album by the Irish band Thin Lizzy, released in 1977. As the front cover suggests, most of the tracks feature only three-quarters of the band, with guitarist Brian Robertson only credited on three tracks. He had missed most of their previous tour, following an injury sustained in a brawl, and this album turned out to be his last studio effort with Thin Lizzy.Personnel
Phil Lynott – bass guitar, lead vocals, string machine, harmonica
Scott Gorham – lead guitar, guitars
Brian Robertson – lead guitar on tracks 3, 6 and 8, vox box, keyboards
Brian Downey – drums, percussion
with
Mary Hopkin-Visconti – backing vocals on "Dear Lord"
John Helliwell – saxophone, clarinetBad Reputation, originally issued in 1977, was Thin Lizzy's third studio release in a two-year time frame. The legendary Jailbreak, and Johnny The Fox, found the proud band hitting their stride. Bad Reputation continued the torrid pace, as Thin Lizzy delivered another diverse recording of solid rock 'n' roll tracks.
"Bad Reputation" features several subdued, emotional tracks, which includes "Soldier Of Fortune", "Southbound", "Downtown Sundown", "That Womans Gonna Break Your Heart" and "Dear Lord", that only a hard rock group of Thin Lizzy's stature is capable of pulling off. Philip Lynott's colorful songwriting is showcased throughout this album.
The title track is a rocker, as is "Killer Without A Cause". "Dancing In The Moonlight" carries an r 'n' b theme, which featured a hot sax solo. My personal favorite track from this entire effort is "Opium Trial", which features a fierce lead guitar break.
"Bad Reputation" is another classic recording from the legendary Thin Lizzy.
