Об альбоме (сборнике):

Help were a 1970s psychedelic, acid, hard rock power trio from California which included drummer Chester McCracken who had earlier played with The Evergreen Blueshoes and who later ended up with The Doobie Brothers. They released two albums on Decca Records in 1970 and 1971."Second Coming" is an album for heavy-psych fans. The outstanding track is "Do You Understand The Words" for its superb psychedelic guitar work and McCracken's heavy rock drumming. The remainder of the album, which contains all original compositions, has some excellent heavy rock numbers, particularly, "All Day", "Good Time Music" and "Hold On Child". Surprisingly, they did not attain much commercial success, and both their albums are now minor collectors' items.
Help's 2nd album is probably one of the most interesting discoveries of early '70s American rock. It's heavily riff and groove based with wah pedal laced throughout. What has dismayed me is the "progressive" label; while there are psychedelic elements, specifically in the opening song, it's just a good hard rock trio in the vein of the James Gang or Budgie.
What sets Help's Second Coming apart, though, is the strong musicianship displayed by the three. The bass is actually heard, the drumming keeps the beat while the guitarist wails out solos. Very energetic, as has been described by other reviewers.
The songs are slightly commercial, and not all of them are that original; "Good Time Music", while having an enjoyable melody, is a token early '70s boogie tune, while "Power" has the populist overtones of Grand Funk Railroad. But the album had the capability, with a little bit of polishing, to have catapulted them to be as big as GFR. For the '70s underground enthusiast, this should be a starting place. It just deserves so much more
