Another in the XDR cassette series, by request. These Dolby HX Pro-encoded XDR cassettes were among the best-sounding mass market commercial cassettes!
I played this back on my Nakamichi Dragon deck with Dolby B engaged. Other than cutting the leader sections out at the beginning of the sides, this recording is untouched. As with the my other XDR posts, this is a warts-and-all presentation. Sharp-eared listeners (which is probably most of you!) will notice a very quiet 60hz hum that is somewhat audible between tracks. This will probably require me packing up the Dragon and sending it off to my Nak guy for service…not thrilled about this, since shipping this monster is expensive. And my Nak guy is expensive. I thought I’d these XDR tapes anyway, since the rich warm tape sound from the Dragon still sounds good to me (my CR-7 does NOT exhibit the same hum problem, but the playback doesn’t sound quite as rich as the Dragon’s, hum or no hum! Viva NAAC!). I may re-rip these after I get the hum problem fixed just because I’m a picky bastard.
I’ll be posting a few more of these from my tape library.
