Об альбоме
Today they play a music merging jazz and flamenco, born from the encounters and the mutual enrichment. To extend Caja Negra's journey, Pierre Bertrand has today chosen to explore the Musical Treasures of the Middle East while paying tribute to a masterpiece of the 20th century.
In the original work written in 1964 by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn, each title evokes a city or country in the Middle East crossed during their autumn 1963 tour, before the trip was prematurely cut short with the assassination of President J. F. Kennedy.
Pierre Bertrand integrates the enchanting and wild melodies in an orchestral setting, contrasted and ultra modern, associated with a documented rereading of the dances and instruments of the countries crossed from the Middle East. Faced with the current events of our contemporary world, the invitation to travel takes on a symbolic dimension : today, travelling from Damascus to Dakha, via Aman, Beirut, Baghdad, or even Karachi would be an impossible journey.
This album is marked by a search for acoustic sound. The recording process includes the use of lamp microphones from the 1930s, the use of the new process of harmonization (Feeling music) on the saxophones by Pierre Bertrand, the mixing work by Fred Magnier on a new type of dedicated speakers (Klipsh) and the mastering of the album by Simon Gibson at the mythical studio Abbey Road.
