ALTER BRIDGE will release its sixth studio album, "Walk The Sky", on October 18 via Napalm Records. The 14-track opus marks a creative highpoint for the quartet comprised of Myles Kennedy on vocals/guitars, Mark Tremonti on guitars/vocals, Brian Marshall on bass and Scott Phillips on drums. "Walk The Sky" is a complete career retrospective drawing upon elements from each of the band's previous releases to create something new.
Recorded in a fresh way, "Walk The Sky" was born from complete song ideas created by Kennedy and Tremonti. This material was then worked on by the entire band to develop "Walk The Sky" into a unique listening experience. This varies from the band's previous method, going back to their sophomore release, "Blackbird", where Kennedy and Tremonti would combine inpidual ideas and riffs alongside producer Michael "Elvis" Baskette to form some of their most revered songs. From the opening vocal melody on "One Life" to the moving finale of "Dying Light", ALTER BRIDGE has created a formidable addition to its music catalog. Songs like "Godspeed", "Native Son" and "Walking On The Sky" are sure to be early additions to the live set. "Forever Falling" also marks a lead vocal return from Tremonti, with Kennedy taking the chorus, as done previously on the "Fortress" favorite "Waters Rising". The first single, "Wouldn't You Rather", will be released in two weeks.
Walk the Sky was recorded from the beginning of March through to May 2019. This album was recorded differently to the band's previous record, with vocalist Myles Kennedy and guitarist Mark Tremonti sharing their own song ideas, which were then moulded into shape alongside bassist Brian Marshall and drummer Scott Phillips. On previous albums Myles and Mark would combine ideas and riffs with producer Michael Baskette.
"It's kinda like a John Carpenter movie — this old-school synth-wave kind of vibe," Mark explained in a 2019 interview with Kerrang!. "Somebody might hear the record and have no idea that was intended, but for a batch of songs, I tapped into some old loops that I either created or found randomly online, and worked with them in the background to inspire me to go in a different direction. I loved working like that. We challenge ourselves to not repeat ourselves and find new inspiration to add a different layer to what we do. It's particularly challenging when you've had so many records, but when I showed Myles what I was thinking, he absolutely loved it and was on board right away."
ALTER BRIDGE will head out on a worldwide tour beginning in September. The trek will launch in the United States before heading over to Europe to close out 2019. The European dates scheduled for November and December will feature support from SHINEDOWN, SEVENDUST and THE RAVEN AGE. The North American dates will be announced in the near future. The band will also take part in the inaugural Exit 111 festival in October and the sold-out 2020 sailing of ShipRocked.
