Fourth Tribute to ‘ABM’, an unpredictable Italian pianist, a perfectionist with a select repertory, “…in which the great German composers, from the Bach baroque flamboyancy, explained by Ferrucci Busoni, to romantics, Beethoven, Schumann & Brahms, were magnified & filtered, showing the solidity of their construction’ states Pierre-Emile Barbier
SA-CD.net review by JJ August 29, 2015:
Harbouring recordings that have been restored from the original tapes dating from 1941 to 1957, this 4th volume devoted to the art of the Italian pianist Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli is a pure godsend. In a copious program grouping the Chaconne by Bach in a transcription by Busoni, the Sonata for Piano #3 Op.2 #3 in C major by Beethoven, the Carnival of Venice Op.26 by Schumann, & the Variations on a Theme by Paganini Op.35 by Brahms. Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli is magnificently represented here, in an SACD that is urgent to procure, all the more so in that it is a limited pressing.
