ZHAN MANHUA, SINGER OF WORLD RENOWN
Zhan Manhua was born in Guiyang city on Jan. 22nd 1960. From childhood she was fond of singing. When she was 19 years old she entered the Shanghai Conservatory of Music to study under Chen Min-zhang. Then after 5 years she graduated with a good record.
She took part in academic activities in voice. Her solo performance at the music festival “Slpring in Shanghai” made a deep impression on the audience. She played the role of Carmen, of the opera "Carmen" in Shanghai Opera Theatre in 1983. As a member of Chinese Musician Croupe, Zhan Manhua was invited to Portugal, Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria and the Soviet Union for performances and there she won great acclaim. In the same year before graduation, she went as a Chinese singer to the "Belvedere Competitition for Opera Singers in Vienna". Her wonderful voice and singing technique won the first prize and at the same time she got special recognition from the magazine "Welt der Oper". After the compitition she performed in Hungary, Italy and Austria and was appreciated by her audiences.
Zhan Manhua is a lyrical coloratura mezzo-soprano. Her timbre is so sweet that she charms every listener. The range of her voice is expansive: Her low vocal register is rich, her middle register soft and gentle and her high register brilliant.
