The Orchestra of the Rome Opera is justly renowned for its special qualities in performing opera and ballet music. Walter Goehr was one of the most versatile musicians of our time. His interests ranged from Monteverdi to advanced modern composers and his contribution to British musical life was considerable He frequently conducted at the Royal Festival Hall, London and at the BBC, as well as making extensive fours abroad. He brought to all his performances a remarkable blend of musical sensitivity and dramatic temperament, qualities well in evidence in these captivating performances of favourite works by Tchaikovsky. His recent death was a great loss to music-lovers everywhere.

Note:
The recording sounds as if it took place on the cusp of the advent of high quality recordings - very clear, but the dynamic range is not quite what it could be. And it's in mono. Still, a nice pair of recordings of exceprts of two of Tchaikovsky's best-loved works by a highy respected conductor.
