Notes from the cover:
"In 1960, a few months after my return from New York , I formed a Quintet with the soloists Simon Bajour (violin), Jaime Gosis (piano ) , Kicho Diaz (bass), Horacio Malvicino (electric guitar ) and me on bandoneon. After much insisting I finally recorded my first LP. At that time I had been accepted on the condition of making two LP. One (“non commercial”) with the musical themes Adios Nonino, Lo que vendrá, Contrabajeando , Decarísimo, etc. And the other as special request with classic titles that could be danceable. I had to sell to the devil part of my soul and recorded another album with classic tracks, Chiqué , Tierrita , Don Juan , etc. As result, the”non commercial” LP was the most widely sold and those songs were the ones that persisted. It was a very interesting experience. After ten years of work and great happiness with the Quintet, I resigned. I learned a lot thanks to it and I’ve transferred all that experience into this new formation, new compositions and new arrangements with longer duration and production.
Conjunto 9 (Ensemble 9) is my new inquisitiveness and above all makes me very happy to write and play other music; so does to the soloists. Anyways, the public will give the verdict. I compose for me with the hope that they’ll like it."~ Ástor Piazzolla
