「怒海爭鋒：極地征伐」前後花了3年半策劃，斥資1億3500萬美元拍攝，澳籍導演彼得威爾，向來以劇本著力甚深，調度手法高明著稱。過去的「證人」「春風化雨」「楚門的世界」部部為影史名利雙收之經典，加上領銜男主角為性格影帝羅素克洛，飾演擅長小提琴的英國艦隊艦長，幕前幕後的金字招牌，充分顯露此片不凡的震攝氣勢！

電影音樂在怒海爭鋒全片扮演相當重的戲份，擊鼓重砲，音效聲勢驚人，穿插悠揚的管弦樂音於整張配樂中，更將畫面的臨場感立體具現；澳洲三大名師包括現職澳大利亞室內管弦樂團藝術總監的童格內提（Richard Tongnetti），來自國際知名澳籍樂團「冰屋」的戴維斯(Iva Davis)，以及曾與電音摩比合作過的戈登(Christopher Gordon)空前合作，摒除好萊塢的慣有作風，開創澳籍製作群的新主張。另外還收錄華裔大提琴家馬友友演奏的巴哈作品，成為影迷與樂迷年度必定珍藏之經典原聲帶錄音！
