Дебютный альбом Magnetic Man был обречен на успех задолго до своего выхода. Его ожидали с тех самых пор, когда Skream, Benga и Artwork объявили о своем объединении в рамках нового проекта.
Хотя и при беглом, и при детальном прослушивании ощущается доминирующее влияние первого из упомянутых музыкантов, на пластинке найдется немало сюрпризов как для поклонников вторых двух имен, так и для меломанов самых разных категорий.
Свежие идеи и качественный продакшн сделали этот альбом действительно незаурядным продуктом на полке виртуального музыкального магазина.
Говоря о свежих идеях и качественном продакшне, можно начать с трека «Anthemic», незатейливо и со вкусом выплавленного из квакающего а ля Joker баса и эпичных аккордов диско из восьмидесятых.
Диаметрально противоположно ему звучит «Ping Pong» — темный космический фанк с пластиковыми перкуссиями и гулкими капающими звуками.
Как подсказывает всевидящий КО, стилистические рамки альбома колеблются между дабстепом и брейкбитом.
Но радикальных южнолондонских тем здесь почти нет — и Benga, и Skream уже давно переросли собственную школу, оставив младшему поколению несколько туториалов по извлечению жирных басов, да сам термин «дабстеп».
Особое внимание стоит уделить трекам «Perfect Stranger» и «Boiling Water», где второй, утренний и бодрящий, является прямым продолжением первого, ночного и неонового.
А такие хиты, как «I Need Air» и «The Bug» уже давно обжились на танцполах и в микстейпах. Многие узнают их по инфантильному вокалу Angela Hunte и ехидному речитативу в духе нонконформиста-шестиклассника: «Ravish your conscience with total impurity, I am the bug in this global community … take evolution higher!»
