歌手简介
由于 Katie Melua生长于政治不稳定的格鲁吉亚和有着北爱尔兰问题的贝尔法斯特，她最初是想要成为一位历史学家或是政治家。2000年，15岁的 Katie Melua参加了英国独立电视台的儿童节目《Mad for It》中的一个才艺竞赛单元《Stars Up Their Noses》。她以坏手指乐团（Badfinger）的歌曲《Without You》赢得比赛，获得了价值350英镑的 MFI Retail 的礼卷，最后她买了一张椅子送给她父亲。Katie Melua在位于索顿Cheam的女子学校 Nonsuch High School 完成了GCSE课程后，她进入了位于克罗伊登的 BRIT School，开始BTEC的A级音乐课程，她在学校时开始试着创作歌曲。
Katie Melua并没有进入大学，虽然她曾表示她想要进入大学读书，她说如果有机会，她在大学里会想选读英国文学、历史和物理。Katie Melua在 Brit School 的表演吸引了作曲兼制作人 Mike Batt 的目光，他原本的目的是想找寻一个迷幻摇滚乐团，一位贝斯手和一名“能以有趣的方式唱爵士和蓝调”的歌手。在听完 Katie Melua演唱《Faraway Voice》（一首由她创作，内容是关于她的偶像 Eva Cassidy伊娃·凯希蒂 之死），Batt签下了当时18岁的 Katie Melua并送她进入录音室。
