Jewel recently had a baby, and to celebrate the new addition to her family, the award-winning singer/songwriter has written and produced an album with music just for children and their parents.
“The Merry Goes ‘Round” is a well-crafted work that will delight children of all ages with its catchy tunes and entertaining lyrics, and will also be a joy for parents who must listen to the songs over and over.
In a press release, Jewel said she had two goals.
“First, I wanted to write an album for my son that would grow with him through different stages of development,” she said. “Up-tempo songs to dance to as a toddler, storytelling production that illustrates lyrics, and cute storytelling songs with good morals and clever lyrics as he grows older. Second, I wanted an album parents would love, too, with quality production and well-crafted songs that could entertain the whole family — instead of leaving parents to cringe every time the ‘kids’ record came on.”
The 16 cuts on this CD meet and even exceed the desires of this talented performer. Four of the tracks are classical children’s songs, rendered in Jewel’s distinctive voice and style. The others are original offerings with wonderful messages for young people.
The mystical melody of “Sara Swan Sleepy Head” tells the story of a little girl who wants to remain in her dreams instead of getting out of bed. “Only Shadows” seems to be written to help young children overcome the fear of the dark. The catchy tune and lyrics of “Happy” help youngsters understand not everyone needs to be the same in order to have joy in life.
This is Jewel’s second children’s album, her first being “Lullaby,” released in 2009. “The Merry Goes ‘Round” is available on iTunes and will be in stores in September.
