Sonny Rollins原名heodore Walter Rollins。Sonny的才华很早受到赏识。1949年，19岁的他出现在Babs Gonzales、J.J. Johnson、Fats Navarro和Bud Powell的专辑里。其实在很早就有的《The Amazing Bud Powell, Vol. 1》这张重要bebop专辑中就有他的身影。只是当初听的时候，一心折服于Bud的琴技，完全忽视了Sonny的表现。接下来他又分别和MJQ、Monk、Miles Davis有合作，比较容易找到的专辑有Miles Davis 早期的经典《Bags' Groove》。曲目:
