Об альбоме (сборнике)
Together for the first time, three acclaimed concertos performed by the soloists who made them famous - dedicatees and performers D. Oistrakh and M. Rostropovich, and then Leonard Bernstein himself, pianist, conductor and composer with the less beloved Concerto Op. 102. Lenny has produced a successful rendering of this curious cocktail - a tribute of Rococo style Bach, an entranced romantic andante along with a caricature of Prokofiev-style virtuoso piano in the opening and closing allegros.

5.0 out of 5 stars wonderful performances in every way

This Praga digitals release is hard to beat...what with his three most popular concertos performed by artists he had written them for (except the piano concerto) all performed and recorded excitingly and perceptively in very decent sound near the time of their first performances. As for the sound quality..I had only the Cello Concerto with Rostropovich and Ormandy / Phil Orchestra on a SONY Great Performances DSD-mastered CD for comparison. This SACD mastering was perceptively although not dramatically better than the CD pressing in the solidity of the Cello sound and in the ease of detecting Philadelphia Orchestra instrumentalists (the solo horn and other instrumental timbres) during background interactions throughout the score. The most noticeable improvement for me was in the Violin concerto, a 1956 Russian recording which my OPPO BDP 105 still indicated was in stereo. While this effect may have been artificially enhanced it was very convincing and (again) the solidity of sound picture instrumental timbres at all sound levels were quite pleasing. The piano concerto with Bernstein as pianist and conductor of the NY Phil was a rollicking performance (I've not heard others) and the sound was quite satisfactory without me being able to give reasons why..
In summary.... for little more than $20 one gets almost 80 minutes worth of top-notch Shostakovich played by top notch soloists.
You can't go wrong.

From the first notes of Rostropovich's cello, we're subjugated!
To this is added the inimitable sound of Oistrakh and the surprising interpretation of Bernstein.

These recordings are just wonderful. Also, for the amateur and simple music lovers this album is certainly a win!!! Shostakovich sounds like a modern film music composer and in many places you immediately think about beautiful landscapes or experiences. For clamping after work as made.

Of course, you have to love Russian music, but when Leonard Bernstein is on the wand... Rostropovich is there to emphasize all the majestic energy of Shostakovich. A real treat for the ears!
In addition, the sound is excellent...
