丁香时代乐队（The Lilac Time）成立初期的成员包括斯蒂芬·杜菲（Stephen Duffy），斯蒂芬的哥哥尼克·杜菲（Nick Duffy）及其好友麦克·维斯顿（Michael Weston），当他们开始准备巡演的时候，Michael Giri和Fraser Kent这两位成员也加入进来。
1988年，丁香时代推出了他们第一张同名专辑。而他们在1989年出品的《Paradise Circus》更是被英国的权威媒体《卫报》评选为20世纪百张最重要的另类专辑作品之一。但是，在合作过程中，乐队成员间逐渐出现分歧，并于1991年宣布解散，斯蒂芬则再次开始了他的个人演艺生涯。在此期间，他录制了多张个人专辑，其中“London Girls”、“Sugar High”等单曲均打入英国独立音乐排行榜Top 10。
终于，在1999年，斯蒂芬与乐队的其他几位成员重组了丁香时代乐队，并连续推出了《Looking For A Day In The Night》、《lilac6》等多张专辑。
