葛莱美、金球奖、奥斯卡得主，当代最知名电影配乐大师之一的霍华萧(Howard Shore)包办哈比人三部曲的音乐，与「魔戒」三部曲连成一气，创下前无古人，后亦难有来者的影史纪录！霍华萧这次仍旧与纽西兰交响乐团(NZSO)合作，有了上一张「哈比人：荒谷恶龙」的合作经验，此次双方的默契更好，不仅在节奏的掌控上精淮贴近影像氛围，乐团与霍华萧创作的音符更达到形神合一的境界，不管是一触即发、大战方酣的紧绷氛围；黑暗笼罩下，力争光明的希望乐章，或殉道式的圣歌吟唱，都充满了绝佳的聆赏性。而由于「哈比人：五军之战」有大规模的战斗场面，此部分更需要震撼跌宕的乐曲来烘托，也使这张原声带成为整个系列裡，气势最浩大磅薄的作品，音响玩家不容错过！本片主题曲更特别邀请在「魔戒」裡饰演哈比人皮聘的比利包依德(Billy Boyd)，由他本人创作并亲自献唱〈The Last Goodbye〉，象徵两代剧组的连结，亦为这部目前影史上最伟大的魔幻史诗系列划上完美句点！
