From the rapturous five-star reviews, an innocent newcomer might assume that this CD of the Bruckner Eighth isn't extreme. But I doubt that Celibidache has ever turned in a more extreme interpretation of any major work. You can turn to his Bruckner 4th and 6th, to name two of the most notable in EMI's Celibidache Edition, and still feel that you are breathing the same air as the rest of humanity. But this Eighth surpasses the ability of my metabolism to adapt.
